New Mexico is actually a beautiful state. You can find greenfields, forested and snow-capped mountains, imposing mountainous buttes, bleak deserts, ivory sand dunes and the alien landscape of the Carlsbad Caverns. I had expected just sandand brush.
We first stopped in Truth or Consequences, NM. Great name, but littleelse. We decided to make the trek to Carlsbad Caverns. As we ventured south the terrainchanged noticeably, becoming the desert I had expected. After what seemed days of driving,we reached the Mecca of conspiracy theory, Roswell. We saw nothing in the skies, not evenclouds. The real surprise was Roswell's acceptance of its notoriety. Every street sign, billboard and advertisement somehow either pictured or referenced UFO's. The jovialembrace of their status as a cult tourist attraction was refreshing.
   Next up, The Bat Cave.
